ACLU Announces Kamara Jones as Deputy Chief Communications & Marketing Officer

WASHINGTON – The American Civil Liberties Union today announced the appointment of Kamara Jones as our new Deputy Chief Communications & Marketing Officer.

“We are thrilled Kamara is joining the ACLU. She is an innovative communications strategist, with a proven record of building and managing high-performing teams,” said ACLU Chief Communications and Marketing Officer Kriston McIntosh. “Kamara brings a wealth of communications experience and expertise that will be invaluable to ACLU and its communications & marketing department during this pivotal moment for civil rights and liberties.”

Jones joins the ACLU with a breadth of expertise after spending years in communications roles on Capitol Hill and in two presidential administrations. As deputy chief communications and marketing officer, Jones will partner with the chief communications and marketing officer in overseeing the organization’s marketing channels, program communications, and external engagement strategy functions.

“I am excited to help direct the ACLU’s communications and marketing work to safeguard the civil rights and liberties of our communities,” said Jones. “I have long admired the ACLU’s communications and marketing work, so to be a part of it now, especially during this critical moment for our nation, is a privilege and pleasure.”

Before joining the organization, Kamara served as the principal deputy assistant secretary of public affairs at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services where she co-led a 75-person public affairs division and was responsible for overseeing media relations, social media, speechwriting, digital, FOIA, and operations. She also previously led communications for the U.S. Congress Joint Economic Committee and the Congressional Black Caucus, and served as press secretary for the U.S General Services Administration and U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal.

A native of Missouri, Kamara has a Bachelor of Journalism from the University of Missouri and a Master of Arts in African American Studies from The Ohio State University. She will be based in our Washington, DC office.
