Long-term reconstruction of Ukraine: UNDP leadership discusses plans in Kyiv

The Office of the President of Ukraine hosted an important meeting between Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Ihor Zhovkva and Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations, Deputy Administrator of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Haoliang Xu.

The main topic of discussion was the involvement of UNDP in the process of rebuilding Ukraine both in the short term – to restore critical infrastructure facilities – and in the long term – for the comprehensive reconstruction of the country.

Particular attention was paid to the restoration of energy infrastructure damaged by massive Russian shelling. Ihor Zhovkva emphasized UNDP’s active involvement in supplying the necessary equipment for energy facilities to ensure that the winter period will go smoothly.

In addition, they discussed humanitarian demining, which is one of the key areas of UNDP’s activities in Ukraine. Haoliang Xu emphasized that UNDP will continue to support demining, including by engaging veterans in this process, which is essential for restoring security in local communities.

During the meeting, Ihor Zhovkva also spoke about the implementation of the Peace Formula proposed by Ukraine and shared plans for the second Peace Summit. He expressed hope that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres would personally attend this important event, which will help find international solutions for long-term stability in Ukraine and restore peace.
