URF congratulates the signing of an agreement on cooperation in the construction of nuclear power plants between Ukraine and South Korea

Ukraine has agreed to exchange nuclear technologies with South Korea. Representatives of Energoatom and Hyundai signed a memorandum in Kyiv. The memorandum, among other things, refers to cooperation in the energy sector and the construction of new nuclear power units.

“It is very important that South Korea is among the countries that are involved in the restoration of Ukraine’s energy system after massive missile attacks by Russia. South Korea is not just a donor, but a full-fledged partner of our country,” said Pavlo Kostyuk, founder of the Ukraine Reconstruction Fund.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to Ukraine Kim Hyong-Tae said that South Korea has already provided over $400 million in aid to Ukraine, and plans to spend over $2 billion more for future reconstruction.

“We are deeply outraged by the intense Russian attacks that have caused enormous damage to Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. The Korean government is working to help you overcome the energy crisis. In particular, in Kharkiv. At the end of last year, our government donated 60 diesel generators to Ukraine. And this year we plan to provide another 200,” the ambassador added.

During the meeting in Kyiv, Ukraine and South Korea planned to exchange technologies in the field of peaceful nuclear energy. And work in this area has already begun. The reactors currently under construction at one of Ukraine’s nuclear power plants include Korean components.

“More and more countries are actively investing in the restoration of Ukraine without waiting for the war to end. And this is very important. Ukraine has a great potential for cooperation, so there is no need to wait for the end of hostilities to move forward,” Pavlo Kostyuk is convinced.
