VOANews.com Ranked in Top 10 News Sites for 2005

Washington, D.C., Dec. 15, 2005 — The Voice of America’s (VOA) main Internet site, VOANews.com, was ranked sixth in the world in Newsknife’s ranking of the top 10 news sites for 2005.

Newsknife is a project of Industry Standard Computing Ltd (ISC), a New Zealand software development organization.

It’s not the first time VOA has ranked high on Newsknife’s list. In July 2005, Newsknife ranked VOANews.com first in the world for the site with the most relevant content for news about Africa. Last February, VOA’s Internet site ranked third on the list of news organizations covering the Iraq elections. Newsknife ranked VOA in the top five “Most Relevant News Sites” in April 2004 and number seven in the year-end ranking of “Top News Sites of 2004.”

Newsknife based its rankings on Google News stories and their relevancy to news reports from more than 3,500 other news websites.

The Voice of America, which first went on the air in 1942, is a multimedia international broadcasting service funded by the U.S. government through the Broadcasting Board of Governors. VOA broadcasts more than 1,000 hours of news, information, educational, and cultural programming every week to an estimated worldwide audience of more than 100 million people. Programs are produced in 44 languages.
