Voice of America Spotlights Berklee College of Music Students

Washington, D.C., October 4, 2005 – Berklee College of Music (Boston, MA) international students Kevin Mbugua, Mariko Ishikawa, and Kundayi Musinami are featured today and in coming weeks on Voice of America’s (VOA) radio program, America’s Global College Forum, which examines the college experience of international students studying in the United States.

The interview with Mbugua, a sophomore from Kenya majoring in Business Management, premiers today. Ishikawa, a senior from Japan majoring in Professional Music, will be broadcast on October 18. The segment featuring Zimbabwe’s Musinami, a sophomore majoring in Jazz Composition, will air on October 25. Each segment will feature the students speaking with VOA’s Marsha James about life in the United States and on the Boston campus. The Berklee College students were chosen from among more than 500,000 international students currently enrolled in U.S. colleges and universities.

“For a large segment of VOA’s international audience, an education in America is a dream,” said VOA Director David S. Jackson. He continued, “By spotlighting international students currently studying in America, VOA is giving listeners a personal glimpse of how American schools work, from our international audience’s perspective.”

America’s Global College Forum features interviews with international students at colleges and universities across the country. The series marks Program Consultant Sherril Taylor’s reunion with VOA, where he previously served as a volunteer consultant in the 1980’s, including a stint as Chairman of the Public Relations Advisory Committee.

America’s Global College Forum is aired Mondays at 8:00 p.m., 9:00 p.m. and 12:00 midnight (EST); Tuesdays 2:00 a.m., 7:00 a.m., 8:00 a.m., and 9:00 a.m. (EST) and Saturday and Sunday at 5:00 p.m. (EST).
