New Members Elected to FLC Executive Board, Bylaw Amendments Approved

Released: May 21, 2020

Washington, D.C. –The Federal Laboratory Consortium has welcomed eight officers to its Executive Board following the organization’s spring election. Two additional seats resulted in tied votes and will require a runoff election later this month.

The annual election is normally conducted in person every spring at the FLC National Meeting, but COVID-19 travel restrictions required an absentee vote by membership. FLC Chair John Dement, and the Vice Chair, Jackie Kerby Moore, announced the election results, including bylaw amendments that were overwhelmingly approved, to the FLC membership community today via a video bulletin posted on the FLC website. You can view it here.

Those elected to FLC’s Executive Board include:

National Officers

  • Finance Officer Courtney Silverthorn of the National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST)
  • Recording Secretary John Bittman of NIST

Members-at-Large:

  • David Pronchick of MIT Lincoln Laboratory
  • Thomas Stackhouse of the National Cancer Institute

A third Member-at-Large seat will require a run-off election between:

  • Ariel Atkinson of US Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Research Service
  • Valerie Larkin of Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division, Newport

Three of the six FLC Regions also held elections. The winners include:

Midwest Region

  • Regional Coordinator, Jenna Dix of the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division
  • Deputy Regional Coordinator, Sabra Tomb of the Air Force Research Laboratory

Far West Region

  • Regional Coordinator, David Nicholson of the USDA Agricultural Research Service
  • A Deputy Regional Coordinator will be appointed by the Board.

Mid-Atlantic Region

  • Deputy Regional Coordinator, Claudia Haywood of the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research.

The Mid-Atlantic Regional Coordinator seat resulted in a tie and will require a runoff election between:

  • Jack Pevenstein of NIST
  • Vladimir Popov of the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research

The FLC will send member runoff ballots on May 27 and will post the final results on the FLC website after the election period closes on June 16. Newly elected Board members will begin their two-year terms on October 1.

During the election, 92% of voting members cast their ballots in favor of a change to FLC’s bylaws. The changes will allow FLC’s leadership to focus more strategically, and allow FLC’s new cooperative partner, AUTM, a leader in technology transfer, to assume day-to-day responsibility for the Consortium’s administrative, professional development, meeting planning and marketing duties.
